The Upper Peninsula of Michigan

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan

The proximity of Michigan's Upper Peninsula to Star Lake (about twenty miles through Land O'Lakes) makes it a region on interest to vacationers and residents alike. The Forbes family first came to the Northwoods staying on Lake Gogebic, and later changing to come to Star Lake. Trips to the "UP," often to the Porcupine Mountains have always been popular.

A favorite food in the area, the pasty, was brought to the area in the late 19th century by the Cornish miners of the UP. [Pasty of Michigan Miners].
